The reality is we are really helping the banks and the mortgage companies since if the real issue was Ohio caring about people not being homeless, we'd have a lot less homeless people. In Toledo alone there were 641 children reported as homeless during part of the school year. Those are just the ones the school system knows about. There's a parking lot here in Toledo where the business owner lets families sleep in their cars. Are they any less important because they've already lost their homes? Some are there because they were foreclosed on, some are there because they lost income which got them behind and then evicted, some have drug or other problems that created evictions... Where do we draw the line of who deserves help and who doesn't? Is the mere virtue of having been able to get a mortgage that a bank or mortgage company should have had a pretty good idea you couldn't afford make you more worthy of help than someone who lost their job?
