Clinton Wins Big in Kentucky

May 20, 2008

The fat lady has yet to sing in this democratic party.  Although things don’t look great for Clinton in terms of the nomination, hundreds of thousands of people keep turning out in state after state to vote for Clinton even though we keep being told its over for her.

Many political pundits continue to pontificate as to why she continues with this fight.  Some say she is just power hungry and some think that she is perhaps just delusional.

However, what is really happening is that Clinton is keeping her word to the millions of voters across this country that aren’t happy with Obama and that have continued to support her race after race.  She is truly an inspirational political figure.

AP Poll: Clinton leads McCain by 9 points

April 29, 2008

According to a new poll released by the Associated Press Senator Hillary Clinton leads McCain in a hypothetical match up to occur this fall.

“I don’t think there’s any question that over the last three weeks her stature has improved,” said Harrison Hickman, a Democratic pollster unaligned in the primary. He attributed Clinton’s gains to people moving from the “infatuation stage” of choosing the candidate they like the most to a “decision-making stage” where they determine who would make the best president.

More argument for the superdelegates!

Another Clinton Victory

April 22, 2008

A big thank you goes out to the democratic voters of Pennsylvania who tonight gave her a resounding victory over Obama.  Of course, Obama knowing that the would lose, left town before the end of the night and went on to Indiana where we hope Clinton will upset him yet again.

One thing I find odd is how the Obama disciples (a term by Ben Keeler that I love) believe whatever comes out of this man’s mouth.  Watching his concession speech, I almost spit out my drink when he told his supporters that he has a record in Illinois AND in Washington of bringing together both parties?  When?  We know that in Illinois he just voted present.  Now that really shows conviction.

Another thing that makes me smile is how he manipulates his voice depending on his audience.  And I don’t think that his supporters even listen to what he is saying.  They are so enamored with him.  Its kind of sick and kind of humorous at the same time.

It is about 11:10 pm on PA election night and it looks like Clinton’s margin of victory is within my prediction range.

Pennsylvania Primary Prediction

April 21, 2008

I typically don’t do this but I am going to go out on a limb this time.  I’ve been reviewing various polls and looking at the trending data I predict that Senator Clinton will win Pennsylvania by 10-12%.  Her internal polling shows her ahead by 13% points and I hope that is true.

Pennsylvania, it is your turn to give Clinton a decisive win and to tell the nation that we don’t want this primary to end and that we aren’t all happy with Obama!

Democrats Blame Economic Woes on Iraq War

April 13, 2008

According to an interesting article from the Associated Press, democrats are making a stronger case of blaming the economic problems that Americans are now facing on the Iraq War, and inadvertently on President Bush.  According to Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky:

The U.S. government has spent “more than half-a-trillion dollars” in support of the war effort, while that money could be spent on pressing needs in this country, he said.

“Across America, our roads and bridges are crumbling and are in desperate need of repair, yet taxpayer dollars are being squandered on an Iraqi government that is riddled with waste, fraud and corruption,” Yarmuth said.

This is going to be an issue for McCain as I have stated before.  In my opinion it is not wise for him to run away from the war, but it also might not be the best idea to be such an advocate and discuss sending even more troops over.

I think that we must finish what we started, but it is disheartening to think of all the war has cost in terms of money, but more importantly, in terms of blood.

There are so many problems in this country that need our attention, at some point we need to start refocusing our energies at problems such as health care.

McCain on Iraq

April 9, 2008

Thanks to my friend Dan who sent me this article from the Associated Press recounting McCain’s stand on the Iraq War.  According to the article:

“The dramatic reduction in violence has opened the way for a return to something approaching normal political and economic life for the average Iraqi,” McCain said.

I think that this issue is of paramount importance to the McCain campaign and will in fact out shadow every other issue.  Everything will take a back seat to Iraq, with the possible exception of the Economy.  And let us not forget the amazingly stupid admission from McCain that he doesn’t really understand economics.  Clinton responded by saying:

“I think we’ve had enough of a president who didn’t know enough about economics, and didn’t do enough for the American middle class. We’re ready for a president who will meet the challenges of our time,” Clinton said.

“He looked at the housing crisis, and he blamed consumers. And his plan for the economy is to extend George Bush’s tax cuts for billionaires and give a new $100 billion corporate tax cut,” she said of McCain.

“The Bush-McCain philosophy could not be clearer — the ‘ownerchip society’ really means ‘you’re on your own,’” she said.

I think she has it right there.  Most of us are tired of politicians that seem not to want to help those struggling to pay their mortgage and put food on their tables.  We are tired of the policies of Bush-Cheney.  It’s time to give someone a chance who will wake up everyday and fight for the middle class, rather than ignore them.

I do not think that McCain can or even should run from his support of the Iraq policies.  Most people did support the war initially.  It was noble to remove such an evil dictator from power.  The surge has certainly helped and as democrats we shouldn’t be afraid to admit that.

I don’t think that Iraq will be McCain’s achilles tendon.  It will be his lack of understanding the economy.

Should Ohio increase the amount it spends on higher education?

April 1, 2008

The Hot Issue of the day from the Columbus Dispatch is this important question of school funding.  You can click the link to go and vote or read the results of those that have voted and/or left comments.

I do think that this is an extremely important issue.  Personally, I see nothing wrong with a child graduating with student loan debt.  It is an investment into her/his future.  However, the cost of attending a 4-year university is getting quite high.  Some students do better financially by applying to private colleges and then waiting to see what type of financial aid they are given.  Often times it is more economically feasible to attend a private college because after all of the scholarships, etc., it costs less than going to Ohio State.

What do you think about this issue?

Seat the Forida Delegates

March 10, 2008

In my humble opinion, the primary elections in Michigan and Florida were very different.

In Michigan, the only major candidate of the democratic party was Hillary Clinton. It would not be fair in any sense of the word to seat those delegates.

However, in Florida, none of the major candidates campaigned in the state. Hillary Clinton won that contest without campaigning and had just as much of a chance to win as the other candidates. I do believe that those delegates should be seated.  Isn’t that fair?

Obama Campaign Misteps
