Return of the Fairness Doctrine?
June 29, 2008
The democratic party, led by its fearless leader Speaker Nancy Pelosi, intends to revive the Fairness Doctrine. Since being abolished in the late 80s, conservatives have dominated the medium of talk radio and liberals have yet to find a viable alternative to shows like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham.
I think it is far better for democrats to focus on finding personalities that can compete rather than trying to legislate their way into this medium. If you’d like to sign a petition against the Fairness Doctrine, click here.
More Evidence of a Media Bias
May 23, 2008
Here we go again. I was browsing several news articles online and came across one titled, “What Does Hillary Want?”
Interested in reading this article, I was not so surprised to see this blaring photo of Senator Clinton.
So here we go again…more sexism and bias from our traditional main stream media.
Bias Anyone?

This is another example of what enrages the Clinton supporters in the democratic party and does nothing to help the cause of party unification. This is from the CNN website.
The Impact of a Newly Formed Group: Clinton Supporters Count Too
May 17, 2008
I’ve been keeping an eye on this for the last several days on some of the Ohio blogs that I check and read daily. Jill Miller Zimon of Writes Like She Talks has been leading this discussion from what I can tell in the Ohio blogosphere.
This group that was formed in my own back yard, Columbus, Ohio, is purpotedely very upset by the perceived mistreatment that its candidate, Hillary Clinton, has received from the Obama campaign, the main stream media, the DNC, and the voters in the democratic party.
According to one of the group’s founders Cynthia Ruccia:
“We have a plan to campaign against the Democratic nominee,” the group said in a press release Thursday. “We have the (wo)manpower and the money to make our threat real. And there are millions of supporters who will back us up in the swing states. If you don’t listen to our voice now, you will hear from us later.”
“We’re just at the boiling point,” Ruccia said. “Women will sit back and be quiet about things for a while, but we’ve had enough. Unless Hillary Clinton is our nominee, we are not going to support the nominee.”
I have publicly stated in this blog in the past that I believe that many members of the main stream media have been incredibly biased toward Barack Obama in their coverage of the democratic party nomination battle. I can barely watch Chris Matthews or Keith Olbermann on MSNBC on primary nights when they are “reporting the news.” I think it is a very accurate portrayl of those “journalists” to say that in the very least they have a strong bias for Obama, but more accurate to say that they are virtually writing campaign spots for him each night. CNN is somewhat more balanced, but not without bias.
I think that to criticize the women that form Clinton Supporters Count Too is very dangerous. There are many women and men that have been quietly watching the coverage of these two candidates and have noted the blatant sexism in the coverage.
To dismiss this group as zealots, biggots, or lunatics on the fringe will only further hurt the democratic party and its chances in 2008.
My advice? Dialogue with this group and acknowledge their concerns. To ignore them or to ridicule them is to strenghten their arguments. Many democrats are less than thrilled at the prospect of having to support Obama in the general election. I include myself in this group. But for me, it has everything to do with his lack of experience and a track record. But I will hold off on publicly saying for whom I will vote until the general election.

A George Bush Moment?
May 11, 2008
I originally saw this posted on one of the best political blogs in ohio, the Keeler Report. Now it seems to slowly be making its rounds on the internet. Can you imagine if President Bush or Hillary Clinton had made this kind of mistake? The MSM would be playing it on a loop.
North Carolina GOP Shouldn’t Buckle Under Pressure
April 27, 2008
Under pressure from the MSM, John McCain, and many democrats throughout the country, the North Carolina is under great pressure to pull the following ad from the air.
Watch the ad here:North Carolina Political Ad
Personally, I think all of these people should grow a back bone. This is politics. As Hillary Clinton says, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Randi Rhodes Forced Out
April 13, 2008
I’ve been busy lately and not quick to post as usual, but had been watching this story.
On air talent Randi Rhodes was first suspended for making her degrading comments about two pioneering women, Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton. The vulgar language that she used to malign these two women was both insulting and indicative of the the type of “talent” that she claims to have.
Air America has traditionally had very bad ratings and has not been a serious threat to right-wing talk radio. I think that for this reason, among others, many commentators and bloggers have largely ignored this issue. The extent to which Rhodes has any influence is negligible at best.
Jill at Writes Like She Talks has a very good post on this subject and asks the question as to why the Ohio blogosphere has been silent on this issue. I think she makes an excellent point and I have been guilty myself.
Another question that I will add is this…How would bloggers have reacted had it been a similar comment about Obama?
Superdelegate Burga Endorses Clinton
April 10, 2008
Well the Clintonites, myself included, have something to be happy about today. Senator Clinton secured a vote from another superdelegate in Ohio. Bill Burga is a former AFL-CIO President and his backing will prove to be important to the Clinton campaign. It came at a good time for some of us that have become a little disheartened when we watch the media day after day attack Senator Clinton and give nothing but glowing reviews of Obama.
I think that this press coverage can only be categorized as the “enlightened” main stream media being overly critical and dare I say, sexist. Let’s look at the facts. Did they treat her husband with such open contempt? No. He was their hero. At the beginning of this long process, Clinton was their favorite. But now another person has come along and he happens to be a man. Line Up Media!
Clinton Stops the Health care Story
April 8, 2008
According to the Columbia Journalism Review, Clinton has retired a story about a woman in Ohio dying after a complicated child birth and not being able to afford the $100 fee to receive service from Obleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio.
Clinton heard it from Bryan Holman, the Meigs County, Ohio, deputy sheriff, who mentioned the incident during a campaign stop at his home before the Ohio primary. Holman told The New York Times that he had heard the story from Ms. Bachtel’s relatives. He told The Washington Post that Bachtel’s plight was a “really terrible story,” and he was grateful Clinton had taken it to heart, adding, “That is what we wanted.”
Story over! Clinton didn’t invent this story as some would like to lead you to believe. Why do you think they are making a big deal over this? Sexism, media bias, etc.? I think there is a strong argument to be made that she has received unfair media coverage when compared with her opponent.
The Math Doesn’t Work For Either Candidate
March 5, 2008
One very important reason for such a successful night for Clinton yesterday was that she was able to hold her base together. She carried women, Hispanics, and the older voters. Obama had previously been making in-roads into these groups of constituents, but not last night. Hispanics in Texas really came through for Clinton which is further evidence of the good relationship between the Clintons and Latinos. This is something that John McCain must worry about for the general election.
Many of the “journalists” have been reporting that it may be impossible for Clinton to surpass Obama’s delegate lead before we run out of primary contests. In fact Nedra Pickler of the associated press states that although she did what her husband said she had to do, the math may not work out. This is yet another example of the media bias against Hillary Clinton. What an insulting statement, “you did what your husband said you had to do and won Ohio and Texas.” Does anyone really believe that Senator Clinton is incapable of understanding the strategy? This story reads as though she was done what she was told.
Serious journalists need to sit down and work the math themselves. It is highly likely that neither candidate will obtain the number of pledged delegates needed to clench the democratic party nomination. So why should Hillary Clinton give up? The answer is very simple. She shouldn’t! The democratic party created this system of super delegates. It is time for the Obama campaign and others to stop whining about the system and get ready to play ball. Senator Clinton did not create the current system.
