Several days ago I contacted the office of my congressional representative, Mary Jo Kilroy, via email asking if she would be having any town hall meetings related to health care reform during the August recess. After all, one would think that her schedule would be posted on her web site, but it is not. Needless to say, my email has remained unanswered to this day.
Tuesday evening on my way home from teaching at 10:30 pm, I heard on the radio that Ms. Kilroy would be having one of those call in town hall meetings the following day. What was her reasoning for doing this type of event? She didn’t want to face the members of her district that sent her to Washington because she was afraid of being asked the tough questions.
What is it with so many of our liberal friends these days that consistently berate the American people for asking probing questions at these town hall events? We hear from many on the left that these Americans are zealots, bigots, nazis, uneducated, ill-informed, etc. You’ve heard it all before I’m sure. Has it not been the mantra of the left that expressing ones point of view is the American way? Are we not allowed in this political climate to question the Obama administration?
I am very disappointed in my congressional representative in Washington. Since she is running scared from her constituents and is not interested in hearing what the majority of Americans now want, I have decided that I will volunteer for her opponent’s campaign to unseat her after her first term.
We should not accept these cowardly positions from the politicians of either party. So yes Congresswoman Kilroy, you will hear from your constituents…it just might have to wait until you do so from the ballot box. To all of those in power on both sides…you are OUR elected representatives. Although there is no way to force you to represent us in the fashion that we desire, we can and will be heard on election day.
Yesterday was the last day of the Ohio State Fair. My wife and I hadn’t had a chance to make it down there until yesterday in the scorching heat. I believe with the heat index, it was over 95 degrees. All I know is that it was very humid. But we still had a great time.
Before coming to Ohio, I had never attended a county or state fair. So this is a whole new world to me. There are aspects that are a bit too carnival like for my tastes. But speaking of tastes…where else do you find all of those horribly good treats like elephant ears, funnel cakes, and fried veggies? They aren’t on many restaurant menus. One vendor stuck out to my wife and me as the side of his cart said “Fried Mashed Potatoes On a Stick.” He even offered two different varieties: garlic and cheese or bacon and cheddar cheese. Now that is ingenuity. I refrained from the new culinary treat opting for an elephant ear and deep fried veggies.
We swung by the dairy barn to see the famous “butter cow.” Although it is goofy, it is pretty amazing to see something so large sculpted out of butter. Neither one of us is into the animal show aspects of the fair. We did see a couple of calves which were awfully cute.
So, I’ve had my fill of fried food this summer and now the summer feels complete.
Does it bother anyone else that our president is asking his fellow Americans to be his little spies as if we were turning into Nazi Germany? It does me! From the the White House website:
They go on…
Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
This REALLY bothers me. Go turn in your Aunt Sally or brother or sister for that matter. Are Americans so mesmerized that they don’t care that our president is asking people to curtail free speech?
I’m so tired of how our administration is so reluctant when it comes to dealing with the oppressive regime in Iran. Althought they were labeled as part of the infamous “axis of evil,” the Bush administration cowered away from dealing in any strong way with them either.
Not only do they kill their own citizens when they attempt to exercise free speech by protesting against a brutal thug that was unfortunately reelected to the presidency, but they now have taken three of citizens of this country for “illegally entering Iran” according to the AP.
Shane Bauer, a freelance journalist and photographer, Joshua Fattal and a woman media reports have identified as Sarah Shourd were hiking July 31 along the mountainous border area between Iraq’s northern Kurdish region and Iran. They wandered across the frontier, which is not clearly marked in that area, and were detained.
Between North Korea and Iran, I truly wish someone would stand up to these international pariahs so they would stop what they do best, which is to bully and intimidate to get their way.
