Old Navy store, Halifax, Nova Scotia

It’s Sunday morning of Memorial Day weekend.  My wife and I are out at a restaurant enjoying the morning and talking as normal.  Before arriving to the restaurant, we purchased a copy of the Sunday Columbus Dispatch at our local Giant Eagle.  Personally, I usually only read the news and metro sections of the paper.  The rest of it isn’t all of that interesting to me.  And truth be told, she only buys the paper to see what ads are in the paper.

Considering it is Memorial Day weekend, I thought that maybe I’d see some stories of patriotism or even heart-wrenching stories of heroes that paid the ultimate price in Iraq, Afghanistan, Europe, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Bosnia, Somalia, or one of the countless other areas of the world where we send our soldiers to defend our ideals of democracy and liberty and justice.

Imagine my surprise when I ran across this story on the FRONT PAGE of the Columbus Dispatch.  It is a ridiculous story about $1 flip flops and the crowds it drew at Old Navy.  Not only were my wife and I shocked, but also repulsed.  What a pathetic display of “journalism” by a paper that is supposed to represent this great city.  What an insult to our veterans all across Ohio and this country.  And what a testament to the dinosaur media and and yet another example of why newspapers across this country are going under.  Perhaps this is a “jump the shark” type of story and we are seeing the beginning of the end of this “newspaper.”

Today President Obama declared that some of the terrorists from around the world that were plucked off the battle field will soon be coming to a prision near you.  I say let’s lock them up in the white house basement in some secure cell if he is not worried that the situation could get dangerous.  I bet he wouldn’t want them anywhere near his own children.  Do you want them near yours?

To this day I can’t understand why Obama is so hell-bent on closing the prision at Guantanamo Bay.  Do you?  From what I can grasp, it is to placate some of his left-wing fringe groups like MoveOn.Org.  It certainly does not seem to be out of any constitutional duty that he swore to protect this country.

Quite frankly, I am apalled by the fact that his own democrat-controlled congress told him no, yet he still plans to proceed as planned. According to the AP:

He spoke one day after the Senate voted resoundingly to deny him money to close the prison, and he decried “fear-mongering” that he said had led to such opposition.

Fear-mongering?  Go tell that to some of the people that have had to live through the attacks on this country and others that have been successful.  There are a number of Obama policies that I dislike.  I am quite disappointed in many of his decisions.  But this one makes me furious.

Time For Pelosi To Put Up Or Shut Up

WASHINGTON - MARCH 28: U.S. Speaker of the Ho...

I’ve been so bad about blogging lately.  I don’t know if it is some kind of blogging burnout or just the fact that I’d rather spend time with my wife, but I haven’t been a very good poster lately.  I hope that will change because I do actually enjoy writing, and sometimes even ranting, on this blog.

I was listening to a little bit of the “evil” talk radio today in my car and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was a topic of great interest to many.  I’ve been following in the news the accusations flying about what Pelosi knew and when concerning the enhanced interrogation techniques, that many of the left-wingers are labeling torture.

So we have the CIA stating publicly that they did inform Mrs. Pelosi of these techniques while they were being performed and we have her stating publicly that she was not aware of this.

So who are we to believe?  For me, I tend to believe the agency that is able to produce the documentation.  But that’s just me.

Would this be such a big deal if Nancy Pelosi and the Moveon crowd are so blood-thirsty about punishing the evil Bush crowd that were “torturing” these people that were plucked from the battlefield.

I am not in favor of torture, but I am able to think back to September 11 and remember the horror that I felt when we were attacked.  What makes any of us think that those scenes could not be repeated?  Does the world now love us in this post-Obama world?  Seems like things are still dangerous to me.  I don’t have a lot of problems with these interrogation techniques.  If someone has to experience a little water-boarding to prevent an attack, I think I am OK with that.

wcsThis is kind of late in the game, but its been a busy couple of weeks, and even months you might say months.  But tomorrow is a big day in central Ohio for a few school districts as we approach voting day.  As an educator in Westerville City Schools, I understand the great importance of passing Issue 16 and what it means to our community.  I ask you all to take a look at this site for more information and for your support of Westerville City Schools by voting YES on Issue 16.
