Congressional Approval Rating Tanks
July 14, 2008
Congratulations to our members of Congress that have managed to fall to a 9% approval rating in the current Rasmussen Reports poll. According to the article, this is the first time in history that single digits have occurred.
Add this to the approval rating of President Bush (31%) and we’ve got quite a gang up there in Washington, don’t we? Now I am no big fan of President Bush, but the obvious story here is the continuing decline of the congressional approval rating.
What’s going on with our democratically-controlled congress?

basically here is how it works:
Democrat makes a pledge to alter the republicans agenda
Republican pledges status quo
Which is easier, which happens more?
Republicans are happy, Democrats are pissed
Plus, there is Nancy…
Thanks

what was it when Democrats took over in Jan 2007? Around mid 20’s or something?
Not very good.
Most voters (72%) think most members of Congress are more interested in furthering their own political careers. Just 14% believe members are genuinely interested in helping people.
I think that quote from the article you linked explains it all…
It doesn’t seem to matter which party is in power, nothing gets done. They are all out for themselves but I do think that in my lifetime it has continued to get worse.
This topic is of extreme interest to me becuase today in a geography class at The Ohio State University we were talking about the differences between the U.S. and Canada and how one country does not have FAITH in their government and the other does… I will let you figure out which is which. The main point of the argument was that a congressional member of the United States made a quote to the effect of the people can not be aloud to think that the gov’t can work, because they will think the gov’t can always fix things. I dunno just thought this was interesting.
Sounds to me like it could be a case of a professor pontificating. Our country has always liked divided government. It doesn’t give either party, or branch of government, too much power.
