Did the Supreme Court Screw Up Again?
June 26, 2008
I’m sure that many of you read about the supreme court decision to ban the death penalty for those monsters that rape children. The death penalty is one of those issues that causes much debate in the United States. Personally, I’m not sure what I think about sentencing people to death, but I must say that I can’t imagine how raping a child would not qualify for this penalty, if it is a legal option in our country. What do you think?

Explain how raping a child is worthy of death. It’s unquestionably worthy of life in prison but punishing someone way beyond the harm inflicted seems pretty medieval.
Sorry to comment twice, but would Jesus support something like this. He already wasn’t comfortable with the “eye for an eye” rule prescribed in the old testament, and this goes way beyond that.
Why is it okay to mutilate and kill an unborn child who has committed no offense whatsoever, but not okay to execute a child rapist?
But then my understanding is that child rapists don’t generally have a good time in prison either. Maybe that’s the ‘eye for an eye’…
I think that the death penalty should only be use if you kill while in prison
No, only people who kill in prison should be executed
Although I get sick to my stomach whenever I read about monsters preying on innocent children, I also know that some people just aren’t ‘wired’ right. Prison is a suitable punishment. (take a visit to one if you don’t think so) The children will hopefully get the support they need to overcome the abuse and lead productive lives.
I think the state should decide.
But if you arent a child rapist, then you dont have to worry about if you will go to jail or death row.
We should only kill those who kill while they are in prison
Not if I’m ever falsely accused, (yes, that happens quite often).
To Paul Lambert: I’m pro-life unless keeping the child threatens the life of the mother. What made you think I wasn’t?
Apologies - I wasn’t replying to you but rather making a general observation. But very often pro-choice and anti-capital punishment go hand in hand with people, and I don’t understand that at all. Or folks who would permit a human fetus to be killed for convenience yet freak out over the slaughter of a manta ray (both are appalling to me by the way).
PL
Great points! Ben says it right…don’t commit the crime and you have nothing to worry about.
Paul is also right - they often get dealt with in prison from what you hear on the news.
Although they didn’t kill the child, it is such a brutal act, I’d say it is pretty similar.
