Big Brother Might Just Have His Eye On You!
May 29, 2008
Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman wants to know just what you are doing in your neighborhoods. The Columbus Dispatch has a very interesting article today that details his plans for cameras coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
Coleman proposed neighborhood surveillance cameras last year, and a 2008 capital budget approved by the council early this month set aside $1.45 million to buy some.
Council approval will be needed again for Public Safety to spend the money. Councilman Andrew J. Ginther, chairman of the safety committee, promised more hearings at which city residents can register their opinions as well.
Although neighborhood leaders from Northland to the South Side have said they’d welcome police surveillance cameras, city officials have yet to decide where they would go.
Walker said test areas would be chosen based on where they’re accepted and needed.
What do you think? Should we have cameras recording our every move?

i dont have a problem with these types of cameras. if you arent doing anything wrong they what do you have to worry about?
Ben - I do tend to agree with you. I know there are lots of people that think of it in terms of a civil rights violation though.
