Obama Sticks His Foot In His Mouth Again
May 27, 2008
Very interesting press release from the RNC:
Barack Obamas dubious claim is inconsistent with world history and demands an explanation. It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, theres no way Obamas statement yesterday can be true. Obamas frequent exaggerations and outright distortions raise questions about his judgment and his readiness to lead as commander in chief.
Obamas False Claim:
Obama: I had an uncle who was one of the — who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps. And the story in our family was is that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didnt leave the house for six months. Right, now, obviously, something had really affected him deeply. But at that time, there just werent the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain. (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks On Memorial Day, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV1sxq8mqvA, Las Cruces, N.M., 5/26/08)
Historical Fact:
According To The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Auschwitz Was Liberated By The Red Army On January 27, 1945. On January 27, 1945, Soviet troops liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp complex, where they discovered some 7,000 prisoners, including young children, who had not been evacuated by the SS. Clinton was hounded for dodging bullets in Serbia. Let’s be fair.

Is interesting how the writer of the RNC’s post apparently can’t read what Obama said. First he said first “American” troops to go into Auschwitz AND liberate concentration camps. He did not say to liberate Auschwitz.
Secondly he makes it quite clear he was relating a family story that happened before he was born. As opposed to Hillary manufacturing an event that she was actually there to experience.
Typical RNC and Clintonites digging for straws as usual. Give it up, Obama is the real deal and will be the nominee and next President.
Joe - I’m not going to make excuses for Clinton and the sniper story. For whatever reason she said that. Both of them must be exhausted and I have no idea how they can keep put that schedule for such a protracted period of time. I know that we don’t agree on our choice of candidates, but I enjoy reading your blog.
I do think it is a huge mistake if they don’t come to some type of agreement to seat Florida and Michigan delegates. I think that would bode poorly for the party.
Personally, I think Obama supporters need to stop making excuses for his comments when he seemingly makes things up like the comment about his parents and the Selma march.
Its not fair to hold one candidate to a higher standard than the other.
I also think that both candidates have done a great job invigorating the party and getting people involved in the process. The primary has been good for the party in the long run.
Thanks for the comment!

dont hold your breath
As anybody who reads my blog knows, I do not really like Obama, but here I think he is okay. His uncle did liberate a different camp (I can not remember which one) and he mixed up names. Not that hard to do, as he has already shown his penitence to do so.
Thanks
