Clinton on the O’Reilly Factor
April 30, 2008
I hope that you had a chance to catch Senator Clinton on the O’Reilly Factor. She did a great interview and will be back on again tomorrow. In case you don’t know, he is on Fox News Channel at 8pm and 11pm Eastern.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
April 30, 2008
He’s back and perhaps more controversial than ever! Who am I talking about? Yes, our good buddy Rev. Jeremiah Wright. If you have been following the news at all, you’ve probably heard him rehash his old anti-American sermons? Personally, I’m getting sick of hearing what an important theologian this man is. Give me a break. Who decided that he was so important?
In all honesty, does it matter how much you have done or given to your community when you say things that he was videotaped saying? Doesn’t that just kind of destroy all credibility? Is it really a sermon to have a man behind a pulpit when he is ranting and raving and not really preaching the word of God? I wonder.
According to George Will:
He is a demagogue with whom Obama has had a voluntary 20-year relationship. It has involved, if not moral approval, certainly no serious disapproval. Wright also is an ongoing fountain of anti-American and, properly understood, anti-black rubbish. His speech yesterday demonstrated that he wants to be a central figure in this presidential campaign. He should be.
We’ve seen that Wright doesn’t plan on fading into the background. Perhaps he wishes to host his own form of reality TV. But what is important is the fact that Obama voluntarily sat in that church pew week after week and wasn’t bothered enough to leave the church. It doesn’t matter at this point if he castigates Wright and rejects him because his actions are stronger than his words!
Xenophobic Bills Currently In the Ohio General Assembly
April 29, 2008
It pains me to say that Ohio has been added to the list of those states who are attempting to scare our Hispanic population through legal forms of bullying. Currently there are two bills in our legislative branch.
Briefly, SB 260 would empower state and local law enforcement officials to get involved with federal immigration law, detaining people suspected of “unlawful” or “illegal” presence, including civil offenses of federal immigration law. House Bill 477 is an English Only bill, declaring that English is the official language of state government business.
I understand completely many of the arguments against illegal immigration. While I typically do not agree with them, we will leave that for another day and another post. What bothers me even more is the “English Only Bill” currently awaiting a vote in the House of Delegates. What is it with many Americans and their fear of learning foreign languages? Why must we all speak “American” as our first language? If Hispanic or Somali immigrants want to succeed in this country, it is in their best interest to learn English. How many of you think that a person would choose to live their entire lives in a country and not be able to communicate with the majority of its citizens? If you believe that, I have some property to sell you.
For more information about these bills, you can visit the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission at http://ochla.ohio.gov/. It might be something for which you could write letters to our representatives opposing these bills.
A mis amigos latinos,
Les escribo este mensaje para que sepan que no todos somos tan xenófobos en este estado (Ohio). No tengan duda de que haya muchas personas aquí que les apoyamos.
Sincermante,
Un amigo “gringo”
AP Poll: Clinton leads McCain by 9 points
April 29, 2008
According to a new poll released by the Associated Press Senator Hillary Clinton leads McCain in a hypothetical match up to occur this fall.
“I don’t think there’s any question that over the last three weeks her stature has improved,” said Harrison Hickman, a Democratic pollster unaligned in the primary. He attributed Clinton’s gains to people moving from the “infatuation stage” of choosing the candidate they like the most to a “decision-making stage” where they determine who would make the best president.
More argument for the superdelegates!
Supreme Court Rules On Voting Law
April 28, 2008
The Supreme Court ruled today on a voting law in Indiana that requires voters to show proof of identification before being allowed to vote. I watched an interesting spin on the story by CNN. The slant detailed their belief that this hurts the democratic party by preventing poorer voters from their constitutional right to vote.
My question is simple….how does it accomplish this? Shouldn’t all citizens have some form of id.?
North Carolina GOP Shouldn’t Buckle Under Pressure
April 27, 2008
Under pressure from the MSM, John McCain, and many democrats throughout the country, the North Carolina is under great pressure to pull the following ad from the air.
Watch the ad here:North Carolina Political Ad
Personally, I think all of these people should grow a back bone. This is politics. As Hillary Clinton says, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Memo to Attorney General Dann: Time To Resign!
April 27, 2008
The Columbus Dispatch has chronicled the saga of Attorney General Mark Dann. It now includes all of the elements of a juicy novel including sexual harassment, drinking, a loose working environment, and a lack of professionalism that runs abound in his office.
According to the Dispatch:
Interviews with current and former employees of Dann’s, as well as hundreds of e-mail messages released last week and the sexual-harassment complaints, point to a casual work environment that often extends into alcohol-lubricated evenings in which work and personal lives blur.
He is turning out to be a real embarrassment to the state of Ohio and should really consider resigning! Unethical behavior is running rampant under his administration of that office.
Rev. Jeremiah Wright Is Back!
April 25, 2008
The spiritual adviser of Senator Barack Obama is back in the news. Its like Christmas time for the Republicans. This man cannot keep his mouth shut and brings it back into the news yet again. I must admit, that is where it should be. Obama has not answered this question satisfactorily and this will continue to haunt him and affect his campaign for as long as it lasts.
According to Wright:
“I don’t talk to him about politics,” Wright said. “And so he had a political event, he goes out as a politician and says what he has to say as a politician. I continue to be a pastor who speaks to the people of God about the things of God.”
He is right about one thing. Obama is merely a politician and says what is politically most beneficial to him. All of this talk about transcending politics as normal is laughable.
When Will High-Speed Internet Be Available For Everyone?
April 25, 2008
Is high-speed internet access a right that all Ohioans should expect to receive simply for living in this state? The Columbus Dispatch informs us today that the problem is pretty wide spread throughout Ohio. It seems as though living close to one of the major population centers does not necessarily guarantee access to high-speed internet.
“If they can’t wire all of Franklin County, how are they going to get it in Appalachia?” asked Hubbard, 78, a retired associate professor of journalism at Ohio State University.
Connect Ohio is a three year project that has already been allocated $2.9 million in state funds. After that, the program will have a $2.3 million annual budget.
I think we have better things to spend our tax payer money on. In my opinion it is far more important that all Ohioans have heath care than having access to broadband internet. After all, there are some advantages to living in the major urban centers of any state, aren’t there?
Lock Them Up and Throw Away the Key
April 23, 2008
Pedophilia is probably the worst crime that I can think of. In Columbus, Judge John A. Connor seems to have toughened up a bit after a public outrage following a ruling in which he was very lenient to the pedophile. According to the Dispatch:
In December 2005, Connor sentenced Andrew S. Selva to five years of probation, including a year on house arrest, on the condition that he receive treatment. Selva was indicted on 20 counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition; he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery.
This time Connor has sentenced a pedophile to 87 months in prison. STILL NOT LONG ENOUGH! It’s time to get tough on this crime and forget about the rehabilitation. Some people do not deserve to be rehabilitated and placed back into the public. It reminds me of the Scarlet Letter…maybe not such a bad idea for these monsters.
